When Gooseberry Falls and the Aurora Dance

"Falling into the Lights"

On October 8, 2024 the sun sent a lovely CME hurling toward earth and the result was stunning displays of Aurora over much of the Northern United States on October 10th. I knew it was time to check off a few of my bucket list items. The planning began for a friend and I to head north. First to Split rock Light House State Park, then to Gooseberry Falls, Brighton Beach and finally Jay Cooke State Park. The sky was a bit hazy, but beautiful non-the-less. The night of October 9, 2024 started with a drive up north in hopes of capturing the predicted Northern Lights. Stop one was Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. As the sun set the Aurora began to dance. Wow! What a show. It was hard to pull myself away to head to destination #2.

A Night to Remember

March 23, 2023 I invited some new friends to come see the Northern Lights with me. They had just moved to the area. He is also a photographer. They had never seen the Northern Lights. What a show we all saw that night. North, South, East, West and straight above Lights for hours! It was amazing. This was looking South early in the evening. So lovely! This showed up in the sky later that night, actually early the next morning as I was heading inside to warm up! The sky lit up! It was amazing! I aimed my camera straight at the corona and what appeared to be the head of a lion was looking down at me. So, so outstanding. I will never get tired of watching the Aurora Borealis dance over head.

Alaskan Moose in the Fall

I visited Alaska in September 2024 with the hopes of capturing the Northern Lights. I captured so much more! The beauty of the mountains and the wildlife were captivating. This moose was seen sauntering through the colorful underbrush as we toured Denali National Park.

Bear Cub at Rest

Aww, isn't he cute? The Vince Schulte's bear sanctuary in Orr, MN is quite a sight to behold. Many hungry bear gather there to munch on the delectable mix of seeds, and berries provided by the staff, students, and interns volunteering for the Summer months. My eyes were peeled for the cubs. One was finally spotted resting lazily high atop the forest floor. I'm thankful I was armed with my new zoom lens so I could capture that sweet expression.
